My bottom shelf warped in a recent overfiring.

Can I replace it with two semi circle shelves?

Hi Jan,
Sorry for the delayed response. This just showed up in my inbox. That's a great question, and the answer is YES!

If you're using them on the very bottom it's fine. If they are the first layer that is being supported by kiln furniture, the key is to use four kiln posts. Position the shelves so that they share two of the posts, so both shelves are being supported by three posts each.

Having split shelves is nice for when you have a lot of different sizes of ware, too because you can remove half of it if you need to fit in some taller pots.

Hope that helps,
Steve
